Package Details
High Peak has recently undergone a major change, from hosting contracted outfitters and agents for the past twenty years to our emergence as a fully managed destination in our own right. This has been made possible by the return of brothers Hamish and Simon Guild to the family business, providing the resource to create our own, unique High Peak brand of experiences.
High Peak strives to provide hunters, their families and friends with an authentic, challenging and complete hunting experience. While the quality of trophies are amongst the best in the country, all hunts are 'fair chase' in accordance with New Zealand Association of Game Estates (NZAGE) policy, designed to ensure that your hunting experience is just that--an experience that you will remember.

Depending on what you seek to harvest, High Peak recommends you allow at least two to three days per species for the hunting component of your trip, longer if you plan to seek the additional alpine species mentioned in the 'Our Game Animals' section. For hunters who wish to further experience New Zealand's magnificent environment, High Peak organizes fully free-range wilderness hunts for Red Stags and New Zealand's other large game species, Himalayan Tahr and Chamois in the surrounding alpine ranges. Utilizing helicopters to assist initial access, hunting is otherwise accomplished on foot. Our free-range wilderness hunts will give the hunter a true experience of the magnificence and grandeur of New Zealand's alpine scenery and superb wildlife.
Sunspots Safaris has had a special relationship for over 4 years now and they have provided countless customers and my family and incredible hunting experience. High Peak Game Estate is truly my "Happy Place" and upon your next visit I am sure you will feel the same way.

Our Game Animals
All of New Zealand's game animals were introduced in the past two hundred years by European settlers who sought to replicate aspects of their homelands in islands previously inhabited by birds alone. The effect of animals--domestic, farmed and wild--on this environment has been huge, but nowadays-environmental impact is a very important consideration. Game animals on High Peak are carefully managed to provide the best possible trophies and hunter experience with minimal environmental impact.
Ever since deer were introduced to New Zealand, the High Peak valley has enjoyed a reputation for the pursuit of one species in particular- the majestic Red Stag (Cervus elaphus). First liberated in the Rakaia river valley in 1897, the famous ‘Rakaia Red' bloodline provides the modern hunter with a magnificent challenge and rich rewards.
In addition, High Peak also has Fallow Buck, Wapiti (Elk), Chamois, Arapawa Ram, Wild Boar and Feral Goat roaming the estate, each presenting a unique and different challenge to the hunter. Small game such as rabbits, hares, opossums and game birds including mallard ducks, paradise ducks, Canada geese and black swans abound and can all be included in your High Peak experience.
