NZ Backcountry Guides - free range red stag

NZ Backcountry Guides - free range red stag

This report just in from Allan Kircher of NZ Backcountry Guides:

“One of the most enjoyable things about being a hunting guide is the number of father and son or husband and wife teams that I get to spend time in the hills with. This hunting season has been no exception and I have had a very memorable season so far guiding several family groups on red stag, tahr and chamois. One of my most memorable hunts was a husband and wife team of Scotty and Krystal. This was a young couple that had saved long and hard for their first overseas hunt and a red stag, bull tahr and buck chamois were the trophies we were after. The hunt started exceptionally well and Scotty was able to take a top free range stag the very first morning. It was then Krystals turn, but unfortunately chamois arent the easiest of targets and again it was Scotty who made the most of the situation and secured a nice buck chamois. Not long after the weather decided it would turn for the worst and our hunting opportunities were virtually non existent. But at times you just gotta get lucky and this time it was Krystals turn – we secured a top bull tahr in atrocious winter conditions, literally hours before they were due at the airport for their flight home. I still have some hunts booked in for this season and yet again one of those is to be a family hunt.”
