Bull Tahr with 13″ Horns – Lake Hawea

Martin Mason of Denmark optimised his wilderness hunt taking two nine year old bull tahr and one nice chamois. The biggest bull carried extremely heavy horns over 13 inches in length, with 10 inch bases. The body size of this animal is massive, only the western side of the Southern Alps has the appropriate feed to grow animals so big. Feral animals are always a problem in New Zealand. I was hunting with Don Cameron on a property out of Waimate. The wallabies are quite a problem and left unchecked property owners actually get fined with a feral tax if the do not keep the numbers of the feral animals down on there properties.
